Convert a logo to vector
Someone sent the logo as a PNG. Trace it back into paths here — flat fills, low node count, editable — without uploading the brand asset anywhere.

|---|---|---|
| Tipo | Usually a raster PNG or JPG of a mark that was vector once. | Paths and fills rather than pixels — SVG, PDF, EPS or DXF. |
| Scalabilità | Blurs past its native size, which is why it has to be redrawn. | Sharp at any size. |
| Colore | Flat brand colours, plus whatever the anti-aliasing added at the edges. | One solid fill per path, in a palette you can edit. |
| Modificabile in | Photoshop and GIMP — neither of which can move an edge cleanly. | Illustrator, Inkscape, Figma, Affinity Designer, CorelDRAW. |
| Uso tipico | Brand marks handed over as a screenshot or a web export. | Anything that will be printed, cut, engraved or resized. |
Da sapere
A logo was almost always vector once. What you were sent is an export of it, and the export threw away the outlines. Tracing recovers a very good approximation: the same shapes, the same palette, edges placed from the anti-aliasing rather than guessed. It does not recover the original curve construction, so if the design agency still exists, ask them first.
The three things that make a traced logo usable are a small palette, a low node count and clean interior holes. A trace with four hundred nodes per letter is technically vector and practically unusable — nobody can kern it, and a cutter will stutter along it.
Not uploading matters more here than anywhere else on this site. An unreleased brand mark going through a stranger server is a real problem for a real client, and the honest way to avoid it is not to have a server in the path at all.
Come funziona
Drop the logo
PNG, JPG, WebP, BMP or GIF. It is traced in this tab and never leaves it.
Cut the palette down
A brand mark usually has two to five colours. Set the palette to that number so the trace merges the anti-aliased in-between shades.
Check the node count, then export
Low node counts are what make a traced logo editable. Export SVG for editing, PDF or EPS for print, DXF for cutting.

Domande
- 01Will the traced logo be identical to the original vector?
- Close, not identical. Tracing recovers the shapes and the palette from the pixels; it cannot recover how the original curves were constructed. For most uses — print, cut, embroider, resize — the difference is invisible. For a brand guideline document, get the original.
- 02What resolution should the source be?
- Bigger is better up to a point: more pixels means the anti-aliasing carries more evidence about where the edge is. Past a few thousand pixels across, a flat mark stops improving because there is no more information in it.
- 03Is my client logo uploaded to a server?
- No. The tracer is WebAssembly running in a Web Worker in this tab, so the pixels stay on your machine. There is no upload step, which is also why it keeps working with the network off.
