Convert JPG to DXF

A JPG is the worst input a cutter can get and the one you are most often given. Filter the artefacts first, then export DXF outlines a machine can follow.

Goed om te weten

JPEG ringing around a hard edge is a band of intermediate pixels a few wide, and the tracer turns each stray band into its own tiny region. Raising the speckle filter drops those regions before they become paths, and lowering the palette merges the block-to-block colour drift back into one fill; between them they are what removes the wobble a cutter would otherwise follow.

If you can get the original PNG, PDF or AI file, use that instead. A JPEG of a logo has already thrown away the information that defines the edge, and no tracer can put it back — it can only make a defensible guess.

DXF has no fills, so what you are producing is a cut path. Decide before exporting whether you are cutting the shape out or engraving it: the first wants the outline, the second wants a centreline your machine software generates.

Hoe het werkt

3 stappen
  1. Drop the JPG

Drop the artwork. It is decoded and traced locally.

  2. Filter the artefacts

Laser preset, then raise the speckle filter until the contour stops rippling along the edges.

  3. Export DXF

Check units and interior holes in your machine software before cutting anything expensive.

Vragen

3 vragen
01Why does the cut path look wobbly?
JPEG ringing. The compressor put a band of intermediate pixels along every hard edge, and a threshold-based trace follows that band. Raise the speckle filter, drop the colour count, and if you can, get a lossless copy of the artwork.
02Which DXF version is written?
AutoCAD R2000 (AC1015) — the version cutter, CAM and sign software reads most reliably.
03Does the file leave my machine?
No. The tracer is WebAssembly running in a Web Worker in this tab, so the pixels stay on your machine. There is no upload step, which is also why it keeps working with the network off.
